OUR PHILOSOPHY
What sets us apart is the very creation of the house: rebuilt from an old existing structure, all its walls are raised from clay and straw, with timber modules on the upper floor. A naturally built rural house in Valencia de Alcántara, designed for those seeking something beyond the ordinary, in a perfect setting right on the border between Spain and Portugal.
This is a place to disconnect: stress, worries and the bustle of daily life stay outside. The thick clay-and-straw walls are cool and textured to the touch; the scent is unmistakable —an earthy, sweet, clean mix that invites calm. In high summer the house stays cool inside, and on winter nights it keeps the warmth of the fireplace like a treasure. Hence our name: de paja y barro — of straw and clay.
Walls that breathe
Clay-and-straw walls with exceptional thermal and acoustic insulation. Cool in summer, warm in winter, in natural clay tones.
Double-sided fireplace
The soul of the ground floor: an imposing stone-clad fireplace separating the living room from the kitchen without breaking the flow of the space.
Two floors, one essence
Downstairs, the earthy solidity of stone where family life comes together. Upstairs, 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms under a sloped ceiling of wooden beams.
Real sustainability
Healthy living and wonderful energy efficiency: natural construction, reclaimed materials and total connection with the environment.
The rooms
Four unique bedrooms sleeping up to 8 guests, on the upper floor of our rural retreat, independent from the daytime spaces. The whole property is rented exclusively to you — no sharing, no interruptions, at your own pace.
Double bed · Private bathroom
Double bed and en-suite bathroom. It is the only room from which the Sierra de San Pedro can be admired in all its splendour, with the pool and the dehesa at its feet.
Double bed · Private bathroom
En-suite bathroom and views stretching from the pool to the horizon. The straw insulating its walls gives it its name, a golden warmth and a silence that wraps around you.
Two single beds · Shared bathroom
Two single beds and shared bathroom. It owes its name to the mountain breeze that flows through when its windows open: light, fresh and full of light.
Double bed · Shared bathroom
Double bed and shared bathroom. Its door reveals the texture of the clay and straw that give the house its name: raw material turned into rest.
The place
Beyond the bedrooms, our rural retreat in Cáceres offers shared spaces designed for quiet enjoyment. All yours, all at your own pace.
